351W to a 351M

I'm getting ready to swap out a 351W for a 351M, is there anything else I will need to change over besides the frame towers, motor mounts, and bellhousings? They are both 4 speeds. It's in a 1979 F-150, and I also have a donor truck for parts.
Thanks

Thanks for the reply, I had thought that the mounts on the Windsor were different, but as long as they will work, no sense in changing them over. Will my clutch linkage work as well?

you will have to change the trans bell housing...351M is a big block bolt pattern , the 351W is a small block bolt pattern...
why on earth are you switching a 351w for a 351m? if you are going to go thru the trouble just go with a 400M or a 460. or you can use a 351C and all you'll have to change are the exhaust manifolds or use headers. you are not accomplishing anything by going from a 351W to a 351M except performing a lot of usless work.<<< just a thought!

Yeah, I was wondering the same thing. The only way I ever used a 351M, is when it came in the truck new.

400M's are plentyfull and cheap, they were shoved in every FORD landyaht built in the 70's. these engines are frogs waiting to be kissed! with a 4.00" stroke they produce excellent power & torque with just a cam & intake! (a 460 has a 3.85" stroke)

Not to mention they're also 200 lbs lighter than a 460.

With a decent cam, intake, and flat top pistons OR Aussie heads, you can easily be over 350 horses.

Matt, with those mods you mentioned, and the Aussie heads, I think a 400 would be a little closer to 450 hp. But more is better, right?

you'll have to do some trimming on those heads to get 450hp! but 450 Lbs of torque is not unreal!!!if you want an easy 450 hp find a set of 4V quench heads and you'll have it

92",F-150, swb, 4X4 351W (365)HP E4od project truck.

I've got a 78 F-350 dually, with a 351M stroked to 400 cubes, and I agree. This truck has power to spare with a low to mid torque cam and a 2v carb . It was'nt built for speed, but hauls _ss to boot. I use it to haul a 12k trailer. Thought about selling it, but it runs to good. My hot rod in disguise.

I would agree and listen to to those guys suggestions.

Good luck, Hobo.labo

Right now, I've got a 400, bored .040" over, a Comp 265DEH cam, Crane Scorpion Roller Rockers, 1 piece valves, ported 2V heads, Edelbrock 2171 hi rise dual plane intake, a Demon 625 Road Demon 4V, Tim Meyers Flat Top pistons (9.5 :1), and Doug Thorley headers. Supposedly this is 435~ HP, and 465~ Ft/Lb. I will verify it when I get it on a Dyno, one of our customers has a high performance Diesel shop, and they just bought a Dyno to test the truck on, I think he might let me run on it. It might not be too soon, I still have axles to swap and a 9" lift kit to put on.

not to hijack the thread or anything
