Plug change @ dealer & quoted time?

Plug change @ dealer & quoted time?
Could anyone possibly cut and paste from the ford service book the quoted time for a plug change on a '02 expy 5.4?
I have seen on previous threads that the quoted time is three hours.
My dealership quoted informally " around $600.00 " !?!?
My math is 3 hours @ posted labor rate of $92.00 PER HOUR= $276.00 PLUS PLUGS ! Still alot, but puts the responsibility in the dealers hands ( I read the post about the small screw in the engine YIKES!)
Somethings Wrong, and I wanna stop by on Monday on the way home from work ( in uniform; I am a cop) and confront them with some numbers.
Thanks!

Sounds kinda high to me. They are trying to get into your wallet!
I had the dealer do mine on my V-10 van and it was only 500 including a new (100$) coil pack and the labor to install it plus the diagnostics to find the problem. He quoted me 299 for a complete plug change with out repairs.
Look elsewhere!

Here in the midwest, it is around $300 for the plug change. I did it for $40, 4 hours of my life and some missing skin. The plug change is not easy just because of the cramped quarters for the the #4 plug. I took my time to make sure I did it right and now I have a finely tuned 4.6L. A nice socket extension set I bought at Harbor Freight Tools is all I needed to get the job done (a whopping $10). You can save yourself a lot of money. I have 3 kids myself and not the best of luck and it worked out for me. Just buy the Motorcraft Double Platinums and you don't have to worry about anything.

I think the actual "book" time is a bit less than 3 hours. I asked my mechanic (independent Triple A certified shop who's done some extended warranty work for me) to quote me a price and his reply, after looking it up in the labor book, was 3 hours at $65 per plus parts. This means the total at that shop would be around $210.

If I am not happy with the price, they will have lost a good customer.

Harbor Freight Tools: Wobbler Extension Set
It cost $13.99 and was well worth it. It took about 4 hours to change them, but I took my time and actually enjoyed it (except for plug #4, you all know what I mean).

Chaz:
With Only 59,000 miles on your motor, if you are not having any trouble...Leave it alone. Ford reccomends that you change the plugs at around 100,000. When you do decide to change the plugs, MAKE SURE you use Motorcraft plugs (just incase you go to "joes garage")..It is not THAT pressing of a repair unless you are having trouble... You could always remove the #1 coil (pass. forwardmost coil) since it's the easiest.. and check the plug to see how it looks, that would give you an indication of how the others are and if they are not absolutlely filthy I wouldn't even bother....... I thought I was the only guy foolish enough to put on a flowmaster 40..hahaha

Its not That Bad
After my neighbor saw me do my 98 5.4 in 2 1/2 hours(plug change) ,I have been doing about 2 a week for just about everyone in Sc or so it seems, I guess $200 plus parts is a good shade tree mechanic price.
If anyone wants to do it them selves and skip all the extension/ wobble tricks NAPA has a special deep reach socket that sticks up 2" above the hole so nothing can drop in there after the coil pack is out the way, the socket was less than $10. if you want a pic of it email me anytime.
