Generator swap and water pumps

I'm upgrading my '53 F100 to 12v neg ground. I've got a generator and voltage regulator from a '65 (I think) Ford truck. The only problem I see is that the fan pulley on the newer gennie is for a wider belt than the original generator.

It looks at first glance like I can pull the pulley and fan off the old gennie and put it on the new one. Any problems I should know about?

I'm also about to refinish the water pumps on the truck (Mercury V8 239 flattie). I've heard that you take off the pulley first, then push the axle and bearing out through the back. How difficult is this to do with rusty pumps? I probably should have bought those two rebuilds off eBay, but...
Should I mess with the pumps other than cosmetics? They were working last fall when I started the teardown. Had a minor drip leak out of one when the engine stopped spinning.
