Stopping the X

Just a note. Coming home from a bike event in Ocean City , MD last week pulling a 16 foot enclosed trailer loaded with 2 bikes and had to get on the brakes hard. Rolling about 75 in the left lane and every body stopped, cars going everywhere. (Toll back up) Put the neighbors wife on the floor, she was sleeping in the second seat. Was never to impressed with the X's brakes, But must admit she stopped relatively straight , in her lane , no skid. Car behind me went off onto grass. Cleaned my pants and kept on gettin it

After a little experiementation I have decided that the brakes aren't all that impressive, but do work reasonably well, and that putting the trans in "tow haul" to get the engine braking sooner is a really good idea.

I rounded a corner in South Dakota and there was a big *** buffalo in the road the brakes worked pretty well then. I tell you this not much wakes you up quicker than that and it helps enforce the speed limit also because I was driving a lot slower after that

The X has very, very good brakes but the physics behind stopping a 7700lb vehicle means it won't quite stop like a Corvette. Keep the shiny side up!

I have towed trailers with a number of Ford and DOge vehiicles. Just after I got my 01 X we ttok a vacation to MD, about a 250 miles drive with lots of stop and go going down route 13. My trailer break assist failed on the way down. Drove the trailer home with no trailer brakes, including several panic stops. The stock FORD brakes did fantastic in myy book. AT 40K I put on the ART cryogenic rotors and pads and can definitely feel the difference since. The only problem has been in draining the funny looking brake fluid and getting the lines cleaned out. ALso found out the BFG ATTA'a are not that great, they wear funny and cause pulling. I'm running 285's....
