Question Subwoofer info

Does anyone know how much the factory subwoofer is? I wanted to have it installed in my Lariat model, I did not purchase it initially when I brought the truck. or does anyone out there know of an aftermarket system that looks and sounds just as good while still hiding nicely under the seat.

I 'm thinking the same thing. I hear Ford parts wants $325.00. J L Audio, a maker of a really fine box, doesn't have their Stealthbox for the 04 done yet. They keep saying a month, but nothing yet. Wiring in the sub is tricky with a stock head unit. I'm thinking a speaker level amp with a line level output to the sub, if there is such a thing, might be the trick. Somebody out there knows how to do it.

Are these subs powered with internal amplifiers?
If so what you need is NOT an amplifier to hook this up to a stock (non sub) amp, you need what is called a Line Level Converter. What this basically does is take your speaker level signal and reduce it (adjustable) to a line level output. This is a NON-POWERED unit and is availible at Walmart for about 15 bucks. I used one to hook an aftermarket cd/mp3/dvd drive into my 1997 Ford Expedition with premium sound. I did not want to lose the factory amplifier in the Expy, but knew that a speaker level signal would not cut it with this amp.
Thanks, Have fun

Depending on the amp, some have both line level and speaker level inputs.

auwdawg - think you have your terms mixed up. Line level are low voltage such as preamp to power amp connections. Speaker level are just that. You cannot use line level to power a speaker!

Check out Q-Logic. They had a nice "Qform" box for my 04 XCab. $249.00 It will take any sub with 5.5" of depth. Looks good and delivers a really tight bass response.
