Cig lighter issue

I noticed the other day that my cig lighter stopped working.
Does anyone know how to take the old lighters out and replace them with a new one?

Does it require taking the entire console apart, or can you just "unscrew" the old and replace with a new?

Thanks!

Check fuse. Thats the reason mine stoped working. but I only figured out b/c that is the fuse for the code reader so had to get it fixed. Fuse powers them both

Hey Wise-guy, maybe he wants to use it like I do...... charge the cellphone on the go. That doens't mean I don't agree that everyone should stop, but I asked this before and didn't find anyone with the problem like what is happening to mine.

Oh yea, what year truck are we talking about. On my 88', I had to take most of the lower dash apart to get to it.

For a 95-04 ranger,You will need to remove the two screws just under the radio and carefully pull the radio and surrounding bezel out ,it has four push clips that pull straight out.the radio will stay connected to the bezel but the wires will let it come out enough to get to the back of the lighter unit.you will see how it comes apart when you look behind it.when you put it back together, align all four clips in the holes then push each one slowly so you dont break one. BTW guys, the 95 and up rangers have an accessory plug beside the ashtray that is for accessories only,it wont light a lighter. the positive contact is in the center only,no side clips.
