1994 Ranger getting codes 72 and 332
I have been getting KOER codes 72 and 332 after my engine light went on. I am having no problems starting. It runs well. No stalling. What gives. anyone else have the same prob? or knows how to remedy?

Theres a sticky at the top of the forum called "Technical Information" that contains alot of useful info. According to the EEC-IV code list that Ken has compiled the 232 is a "Coil Primary Fault" and the 72 is a "MAP MAF Change Insuf." I would guess that you have a coil going bad and/or a problem with your MAF sensor. That one is pretty common on Rangers from what I've read here. Some of the more experienced guys can chime in and let you know what you need to do.

I have a Sunpro Ford code scanner that I have had since 1994. and the book says
332 - insufficient EGR flow detected
how vague can you get...??
I have had problems with MAF sensors on other vehicles and it runs too good to point to the MAF. I am going to clean the wire a bit and then run the KOER to see if there is a difference (and wait on a few other responses)before I buy a new one.
Thanx

An insufficiant flow code can be caused by a clogged EGR port.If you remove the EGR valve you will find a finger sized hole in the intake manifold,at the BOTTOM of this is a SMALL port.try poking this port out with a peice of STIFF wire and a couple of pipe cleaners.then unhook the negative battery cable for five minutes to clear the code.

Vin,... yer a genius. I cleaned that port you described and checked the codes and it ran all clear. If you were/are a girl consider yourself kissed. A big wet juicy one with a little spit left over. lots of tougue,... lots.
I'll probably go in there later and do a better job with a tube brush... thanks

OK so I go back to make one last check of these codes and I realize I am making a mistake. I thought each set of numbers in a series was preceded by a separator code of "1" when it turns out my code of "1" and "72" might actually be
code 172 - Heated exhaust gas oxygen (HEGO) sensor voltage indicates lean condition (bank 1)
What a dork I am,...
OK now,... I have a 99 windstar that also had the same codes (but in a OBD format) that, to make a painfully long story short, turned out to be the intake plenum letting in air making the sensors read an error downstream in the exhaust oxy sensor. Replacement of the plenum was the only fix that worked.
Or is it just the sensor that has outlived its usefullness and needs to be replaced.
