Gas Smell from engine??
When I cut off my engine after parking my 94 Explorer XLT, an odd odor appears. It smells a little like gas, but it is not quite as strong in aroma. I cannot locate the source of the smell but it seems like it is coming from the front rather than from the rear of the car. It is more apparent after I have travelled 20 miles and only appears after driving. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

A couple possible sources are:
1. The schrader valve on the fuel rail
2. The vacuum line to the fuel pressure regulator. Pull it and if fuel is in there then the regulator is toast. You would probably notice less than optimal performance if it were bad.
3. The charcoal canister and the lines that run to and from it
4. The fuel line and fuel line fittings (look for chafing on the fuel line)
5. Leaky injector
You can check 1-4 pretty easily without any tools and that's where I would start. To check for a leaky injector you'll at least need a fuel pressure gage.
