Dana Axles

Ok I did a search but I couldn't find my answer. What does the # after the Dana mean with axles? I see Dana 40,60,etc..... What does the # mean?

they are model #'s
the larger the #'s the more heavy-duty the axle is.

Does the # mean anything like force it can haul?

I may be wrong but i think it is just a model #, with higher #'s being a heavier/stronger axle.

they range from 20 to 80 (I believe), with 44 front axles and 60 rear axles being the most common.
