Post 1991 Explorer A4LD

I just noticed today when my truck shifts from 1-2 and from 2-3 under aprox 1/4 throttle the rpm drops very little between shifts.

To be more specific. From a stop accelerate to road speed...(50mph)...at 1/4-1/2 throttle the truck starts out in 1st gear hits approx 3k rpm then shifts to second (drops rpm only a couple hundred while vehicle speed steadly increases), engine climbs a few hundred more RPM then shifts to 3rd dropping RPM only a couple hundred again.... Once the truck goes into overdrive RPM drops approx 500 - 1k RPM.

Now if I start out under full acceleration (pedal to the metal) it goes to approx 5k rpm and drops approx 1k - 1.5k rpm between 1-2-3 shifts (more defined shifting).

Does this sound like a problem? I don't drive the truck much being it's my wifes ride thus I only recently noticed it.

The shifting pattern you described sounds pretty normal to me.
I also have a 91 A4LD auto and it has always shifted smooth
as glass to the point of almost being imperceptable in the shifts
except under hard acceleration.
I checked my tach readings under light (normal) acceleration and got the following results. The tach would rise to about 2300 and shift would occur dropping rpm back down to 2000 rising again to about the same point for the next shift and again dropping back to 2000. I had trans rebuilt after failure at 179000 miles and wife commented she did not think it was up shifting properly because she could not feel it.
Sound like yours is OK and I would not do anything but normal maintenance.
