Market Share - Heavy Pickup Market (SuperDuty)

Everyone always wants to know about market share. Here is some information:

Through May 2004, GM held a 50 percent share of gasoline-powered heavy-truck sales, according to R.L. Polk data provided by Ford. Ford's share was 38 percent, followed by Dodge at 12 percent. In diesel engines, Ford held a 51 percent share for the same period, followed by GM at 25 percent and Dodge at 24 percent.

For diesel GM has 30% min - In the Wall Street Journal it was 38% a few weeks ago. From what I know that number is soaring and dealers are having a difficult time maintaining stock in some parts of the country.

Very true. I've been looking all over Minn and Wisc for my next truck since ford is being forced to buy back my 03 PSD. It's really unusual to find a new dmax on a lot except for the oddball ones like a base model, single cab. Finding a used one is even harder and the prices on the used ones are always very high if it's a nice truck.

On the flip side, there are always lots of new PSD's on the lots I've been through. Of course, that's got a lot to do with the fact that IH makes a lot more of the PSD's for ford that GM can produce of the dmax. Supply and demand.

Used prices for the ford PSD late model trucks is also strong, BTW. You can really see the payback on the diesel option on the used truck market.

I heard that before the Dmax, that GM held 2% of the diesel market. I think the percentages vary so much that you cant get an accurate count these days. Just know that whatever you have or can buy is good and will do great at whatever you ask.
