Need Help w/trailer wiring

Need Help w/trailer wiring

Hey guys i need w/ my trailer wiring im pretty good at electric stuff so im not going to pay someone to install this. i have a 97 expy EB that did not come with the towing package. so all i have is the 4 pin connector at the back of the truck. now is what i need to know is where do i start?

Ford has a funky end, I just bought an adapter at Wal Mart to go from my 97 Expy
to the regular flat blade plug. Search any Trailer hitch site as the wiring is all the same.
Note--Run a ground wire. Do not use the ball as the ground.

oh--by the way the Expy is already wired. That plug should be all set. I have in the past ran into problems with the small coverthat covers the plug. It does not seal it completly. A small round wire brush from hardware store took care of that.

If you're wanting to hook up the 4 pin, you're good to go. If you're needing to go to 7 pin, I believe you can buy a harness from Ford to snap into the existing wiring harness. I think just about all Expy's have brake controller wiring under their dash already...
