Question Mystery engine

I recently purchased a 1955 F350 dump truck that had an engine upgrade sometime back in the early 70's. The previous owner told me that he remembered the 6 cylinder replacement engine might have been from a ~1963 F250. How can I determine the exact year and displacement of this engine. Thanks for the help.

The only way to determine for certain what it is would be to do as was suggested above, and find the casting numbers. If the engine did in fact come from a 1963 F250, and it is an I-6, then it is probably a 223 or 262.
