Question 1999 ford ranger thermostat location

Okay, so I am a novice, but is the thermostat REALLY located on the lower left hand corner of the engine. I have to replace it and I find it a very difficult place to get to. 1999 Ford Ranger Sport, 2.5 L four cylinder with AC and PS. THanks.

Should be front & center at the end of the upper rad hose. Also not an easy location to undo the bolts.

That's what I thought

Thanks, I would logically look for it there. I bought a Chiltons Book for 1991-1999 rangers and it said look below. There is a heater hose and the lower rad hose going into a housing, but wow it is hard to get to. Thanks for the help.

The book that I have ends @ 97 (mines a 97).
It just doesn't seem practical to me that they would do a major change like that. There's also a heater hose to the thermostat housing shown. I can't presently think of any engine with the t/stat on the lower hose.

Smile Excellent

Thanks a lot. Then I am going to proceed with the taking off the top hoses and let's see what happens. I too had not heard of a thermostat down below. And the top one does have the connections for the heat sensors....it seems the proper place. Thanks a ton for taking time to help me out.....

I posted a message about the same thing (thermostat location on a 99 ranger) aswell. I don't ever remember getting an answer from it, maybe i just forgot to re-check the post. But this helps me out too. Thanks!

WOW more trouble

Well I found the thermostat, just where you said it would be, but no one seems to have the right replacement part. Just make sure if you do this on your own, you have a buddy that can find a ford dealership quickly. Thanks for all the help.
