350 chevy... arrrrgh!
I know this question does't exactly belong on a ford truck forum and I will probably get flamed, but hear me out. I have a 53 f100 I purchased a couple years ago. It came with a 350/350 driveline (yes I will eventually be replacing with a FORD). In the meantime I am having an issue with it stalling, either when idling, or if I am at a stop light and then go to take off it just dies. In both cases it does not stutter or idle rough, it just acts like some one turned the key off. I always starts right back up immediatly (usually don't even need to pump the pedal). It won't stall until the engine is up to operating temp (180F). It won't stall when I am into the gas pedal either, just dies when idling or coasting. I have rebuilt the carb, replaced the accelerator pump, coil, points, condensor, ignition switch, ballast resistor, fuel filter also checked the cap, rotor, wires for breaks or wear (even though most all it is low miles). In some aspects it acts fuel/air related since it won't die when into the throttle. But the fact it dies without any warning and starts right back up it seems electrical. This is a very early 350 (pre 1970's) so there is no emissions stuff on it. I have discussed the problem with several chevy guys and my mechanic buddy, they are all stumped. Any help or suggestions (other than replacing the engine) would be greatly appreciated.
