5.4 Lariat delay in gas pedal
#16
I know exactly what you are talking about. I have the FX4 model and I noticed the same lazy feel in the gas pedal. I took it back to the dealer the following week and they did a complete check on the system and found nothing wrong. They said it must be because of the new electronic throttle control design. I have 4900 miles on my truck and it still has the same feel in the gas pedal. I can barely tolerate it but will have to until I sell the truck. My 99 F-150 had the 5.4 and had a set of ***** to match. Man I miss that truck. For now all I can say is just get used to it and hopefully in time it will get better. If the new 2004 Fords didn't look so damn good I probably would have gone to the otherside and bought the new fullsize Nissan. I can't believe I said that.

There may be an aftermarket fix for this in the way of a 'chip' or reprogrammer tool...if there isn't one already. Problem with the reprogrammer that I read about was it requires you to use high octance gas...screw that. Also, I'm just not inclined to go screwing with it already. Maybe several years down the road when it's a little more used and tired. Maybe mine does have a slight delay. I really haven't noticed it if it does. But then, I didn't expect it to be a Mustang Cobra either. It's running great in it's role as a truck.

I also have the throttle delay. Most times I can live with it, but there is one instance where it becomes dangerous.
I'm stopped at an intersection and a car is stopped in front of me. When the light turns green, the car in front starts to move, and I put steady, firm pressure on my accelerator. Nothing happens, so my foot instinctively presses down further. All of a sudden the truck starts to accelerate faster than I want, and I have to hit the brakes to keep from hitting the car in front of me.
This happens way too often. Now I'm learning to wait until the car in front is almost across the intersection before I even hit the gas. People behind are starting to beep at me.
I'm waiting for a reply from the dealer. I've asked if there is a reflash available for this problem. We'll see what they say.

I made a daring merge in front of a BMW. I under estimated his speed and the trucks response. When I floored it, it hit that slow spot. During this time the BMW closed in quickly. In fact I think he was accelorating to send me a territorial message. The truck really kicked in and I hit 95 mph. BYE BYE, yup. The BMW driver must have backed off because he was shocked to see my hay wagon gitty up n go? Happy trails partner!

The one thing I'm having a tough time getting used to is the speed control. When I engage it, I feel nothing in the gas pedal. If I engage it on an older vehicle while going uphill, I can feel it take over and pull the pedal down to compensate for the grade. Stranger yet, when I take my foot off the pedal after hitting the set button, the pedal comes all the way back to the idle position. This must be part of the "drive-by-wire" system. It just feels really weird. Anyone else notice?

Delay in the gas pedal
I have a 04 Lariat 3.73 Rear end with Limited Slip. I got about 9000 miles on my truck. The delay is due to the fact that the drive by wire sensor is at a stop the petal does not sense movement until after the first 1/8 of an inch so if you are going to jump out in traffic. Rest your foot on the petal to get the sensor to register. So just barely put your foot on it. and you will get a LOT FASTER response out of it this way.
