2.9 missing at low RPM

When shifting gears as I step into the pedal I get a miss, acts like the engine is cold, and my exhaust fumes smell really rich. This does not happen if RPM's are above 2500. I notice that on a rainy day the problem is worse. This is an intermittent problem, and I have changed the fuel filter recently. Also replaced lifters 3000 miles ago. Any ideas? Thanks!

Always start with the simple stuff. A couple minutes to check for trouble codes & a couple more to check fuel pressure. Have you ran it for a minute, shut it off & removed the vacuum hose from the fuel pressure regulator? It should be dry.

trouble code, take it down to the local autozone or advance auto parts and have them pull the codes, they will do it for free. As for fuel pressure, ask to borrow a fuel pressure gauge at autozone, they loan out tools. There will be a connection on the fuel rail coming up to the motor.

Ditto to what 78fordman sez & if you need more info on checking the fuel pressure, see page 4-7 in your Haynes manual.

Also check vaume. my chevy will miss, i have a bad MAP sensor on it. My ol' man gave the the advise of tearing the electronic junk off of it and throwing a carb on top, not an option with the 2.9 though. I would check the vacum with a gauge while autozone has the computer on it, and see if they are one of the same. If they are the same, and your fuel pressure is good, time for plugs and wires.
