Question Changing to Rear Discs..whats needed?

I have a 72 Ranchero I am bringing back to life. After replacing the front discs, front pads, rear drums, rear shoes, brake cylinders, and vac booster, all I can say is....THESE BRAKES SUCK. Maybe I am spending too much time in my Mazda 929, which has awesome brakes.

Regardless, I figure maybe I need to switch the rear drums to rear disc brakes. SOmeone told me that the way to go is to go for late 70's Lincoln's? Other than calipers, rotors, pads, what else will I need to do? Has anyone done one of these rear brake swaps?

you might want to get the master and proportioning valve too. if your brakes do suck, is it possible they need to be bled or the rears adjusted? the adjustment of the rears makes a BIG difference. also, did you install high quality pads? the cheapies do suck!

In doing additional research, I read an article on drum venting. Basically, its where small holes are drilled into the drum sides that allow heat and gases to escape. A place in Southern Calif does them, called C.H. Topping. Anyone know about this process? If it improves the brakes w/o having to go to discs, may be a good option.
