Is a '97 and 2001 engine interchangeable

I ordered a 4.0 SOHC engine and it looks totally different than mine. My old engine has the plastic tubes along the top. The new one, a 2001 model, has a diffent intake.

Does anybody know if the two engines are interchangeable?

Thanks for the information.

i'm not 100% sure about the SOHC engine but i did a swap with a OHV last summer and had to use the upper intake/injectors/fuel rail/sensors/wiring harness and a few other parts off the old engine. the basic long block should be exactly the same. don't use any sensors that have different part numbers than the old ones unless you check with ford i learned this the hard way with the fuel injectors they looked almost the same and plugged in but gave the computer lean codes because they had a different calibration number.

Ford redesigned the 4.0L (sohc) in later 2000, not sure the major differences other than they said the timing chain issue were resolved...

You should be able to use your old intake setup so long as both are either OHC or OHV engines.
