Trouble w. F250 stalling - can anyone help??

My '89 F250 has stalling issues. It will only idle from start up for about a 1/2 minute, then stall. Also stalls when coming to a stop. It does not stall when driving though. Does not matter whether engine is hot or cold, although it has been happening more since the weather has been cold out. Can anyone help me out? Suggestions? If I can't get it figured out over the long weekend, I'll probably have to take to a shop for code runs.
Thanks in advance...

I had this problem. I was told it was an idle valve. It stalled on my first drive. I drove on the freeway for 30 minutes, and two miles after exiting it stalled with no warning. All I saw were all the dash lights on. They replaced it and so far no problem.

2022,4x4,cc,sb Go figure this one, 'cause I can't!

I had the same problem with my 97 f-250 auto 351 v8 4x4

It is the idle valve, two philips screws pop it off screw the new one back on. wasnt expensive either. good luck
bring a philips screw driver with ya and u can do it in the parking lot of the auto parts store :-)

I had trouble with stalling on my last F-350 1994 diesel when I was low on fuel (around 1/4 tank full). Asked several dealers, not very successful. What one told me was that perhaps a small piece, I think they called a "grommit" somewhere between the tank and fuel line was allowing air to get in the fuel line. To get to this piece, the gas tanks had to be dropped so piece could be replaced, no guarantee. I didn't have this done.
The truck only stalled irregularly, but only when coming to a stop or sudden slowing to a stop.
I would suggest adding a diesel fuel additive (sulfur, anti-gel type, like Silo?for diesels only) to each tankful of fuel, it may help, it helped me. I sold the truck after 7 years, other than that problem, I loved my truck and so does the new owner. Kathy

Sorry I didn't get back to you sooner, I just saw that I had private messages and have been out of town. Anyway, the collector I was refering to ids the canister where the 2 tanks come together. I believe there is a check valve in there also that goes bad. I had to replace both the fuel pump and canister to cure my problem(tank pumping from one to the other). I don't remember the proper terminology since this was about 3 years ago. I hope I'm not too late and that this helps you.
