4.6 d.o.h.c in a 56 F-100
Well I went out and bought a 4.6 from a 93 Mark V111 today. I got the overdrive trans, computer, p.s pump & resivoir, a/c pump. alternater, exhaust manifolds, fuel pump, driveshaft, all the air intake. everything I think I need to make it run. I can't wait until next weekend to get started. Ozzie

Ozzie,
You didn't say if you grabbed the wiring harness and such, but if you still have access to the donor, I'd grab every bit of wiring harness, every body mounted sensor and anything else that even looks like it would have anything to do with the engine or tranny. And a wiring diagram for the Lincoln engine control system would be handy as well. There may even be a few interesting items like rollover valves or something like that , that are tied into the ECU and are required to make it run.
Good luck on your project. This sounds like a really interesting project. And if that don't got the go, the mustang crowd has got a whole aftermarket that is opening up for these DOHC mod motors.

Hey Oz,
Great idea! The 4.6 is a strong, hi-revving motor and should serve you well. Along with the rollovers for the computer, it might also lessen the # of potential headaches if you got the A/C unit (since you already got the A/C pump). Just a thought borne from wishing you the fewest possible hiccups on the way to what should be a nice set-up!
Definitely keep us posted, and congratulations on your buy and choice of motors...

When I made the deal for the engine and trans I talked the guy I got it from into giving everything I thought I would need. This guy is a Ford tech and is seems to know what he is doing. I also have a couple local buddies that are also Ford techs and they are sure we can make it run. I just have to get the power train installed in the frame and build a fuel system and radiater. Hope it all works out. Ozzie

The engine is mounted in the frame and ready to go. I had to trim some of the extra metal that Ford left when they built the crossmember, they press but 3 layers togeather and then rivet and weld them. I also had to make room on the right side to get the starter out, if it ever failed. I am building a fuel tank, when that is finished I can hook up the wireing and start it up. Ozzie

If anyone else is thinking of useing this engine combo. there is a place called the Detail Zone, that make a plug and play wireing harness. Check the out @ www.thedetailzone.com. You use the engine computer that came with the car and there harness. Ozzie

2000 Cobra
I was looking at putting the 2000 4.6 DOCH engine in my '56 ford truck, it comes with the engine complete from TB to oil pan with tranny and exhaust and harnesses & cpu already attached. The price is 6,000 and is direct from Ford, which isnt too bad considering everything is new and connected. Anyone else explored this option or carried it out with their truck? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Steve,
Well Im glad we have the same idea, maybe we can exchange solutions and pitfalls with each other as our projects progress. Mine is also the 5 speed manual. The whole thing comes as a package from Ford Racing Parts so its already connected with all the sensors and harnesses in place/installed. When do you anticpate putting the powertrain in your truck? I spoke with a friend who is a mechanic and he said the only tricky area might be doing the ignition system because I will be using the original steering column. I might just make it a push button start (similar to race cars and some upscale modern cars) and not even worry about keys etc.
