1 Ton single to dually?

I just bought a 1992 4 door 1 Ton with a farm style flat bed and single rear wheels. I must say it doesn't look to cool. I'd like to put dual rear wheels on it and wonder if anyone out here has any experience or ideas on the subject.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

I think all you have to do is put longer studs on the hubs. If I am wrong someone correct me.

also you can keep a look out for a 8-97 dually truck to use as a doner truck to swap the dually rearend under yours and to swap the front hubs so it'll have the lugger lugs on the frontend to use the same rims. just besure you get a factory bedded dually instead of a factory cab & chassie because the c&c trucks have norrower frames. if your truck was a c&c i'd measure your frame to see if the srw trucks had the norrow frames too.

Thanks!

I looked at the JC Whitney site and it said you had to use regular wheels with their spacers. Not the look I'm going for, but thanks for the tip.

I went to a salvage yard and he said that the c/c rear end would match what I have. I'll be puttin' the measuring tape to it before any cash changes hands, based on the on-line tip, here.

The dually setup is exactly what I had in mind. However, the guy at the salvage yard said they wouldn't match up. Hubs and axles. I'm not exactly sure he knows what he's talking about, so I'll do some more research before I decide which way to go.

Thanks for all the tips and info. I really appreciate it!

You're right!

That link was helpful. Sounds like that guy knows what he's doing. I hate looking at stuff like that! Makes me want to do more than I had originally planned.

Have a great day!

Good site!

That is a good site, but I really don't want to use the adapters. I'm still searching for the right truck to rob axles or hubs from.

Thanks for the link.

Hey MoJo, What gear ratio do you have? Is it a Sterling Rear? I have a dually rear end with 3.55s (I think) in an `86 F350 that I want to convert back to SRW. I am not sure what year the rear is. I will have to crawl under it and see if the tag is still there. I may be able to fix you up on front spindles also. Are you two or four wheel drive? Give me some more info if you are interested in a swap. Horton

dumber-n-a-stump

I have no idea what the ratio is. I've tried to get some info from the VIN, but no luck. I'm gonna have to break down and go to the Ford House to get the low down.

I am interested in the swap, but not in a hurry. My son is racing cross country motorcycles and I'm spending every off minute to get him up and running for this season. Not to mention every available dime.

Shoot me your e-mail address in here or in a Private Message and I'll work out the details with you later.

Thanks,
