Let me explain the statement about Bushwacker Pocket flares not always being a cutout. The one for the SD is only the cutout style. A Jeep TJ and a Jeep YJ take the exact same Pocket Flare -- on the TJ it is NOT a cutout because the wheelwell is larger, but the exact same flare IS a cutout when put on a YJ. That is the only non cutout Pocket flare that I'm aware of.

DC, like I stated earlier when we did mine, I think it was only about a 3.5 inch cut at the rear if you measure parallel to the frame, but if you measured the metal following along the stock flair, which is angled to the body and not parallel, would probably measure another inch of actual metal. That does not give you another inch of clearance however.

Now, a 12 inch wide wheel with the same backspacing as a 10 inch wide wheel will move the outer sidewall an inch farther outside the truck. I doubt it will move the tire outside the same amount because the sidewall is now straighter, but it does move the tire farther out.

Now, I'm confused about your statement on the pocket flares....
The pocket style flares for the SD don't require any cutting like the Cut-Out Flares do. They are just for looks and a little more tire coverage.

This Truck has the pocket flares on it.

DC, I can't make your link work. If they make a Pocket Flare for the SD beyond the Cutout flare then it is newer and I don't know of it. If so then I'm wrong here . . . which I definitely appologize for. I bought my cutouts 2 years ago and there was no such beast and they don't seem to have a catalog on their website. I just bought the TJ flares so I am familiar with them. I'd like to see what you have found however . . .

DC,

Thanks. What tire size and inches of lift are we looking at in the picture? Also, what kind of fluid is that running of the tire??? :-)

The link worked for me. VERY nice.

Mike.

Well, I can't get it to come up right now either......but you could try entering this into your addy line later one and see if it works. Click on the gallery of the 12.5" lift and 40" MT/Rs:
