I have mostly been a 351M guy, but recently I have been feeling the need to upgrade. I am going to build a good strong 460 to put in my LTD. Main question is are there any particular years that the blocks were better than others. The local junkyard has a running 78 460 for a 200 bones. Also can a stock FMX transmission and a 8.8 rearend handle the abuse of a 500hp motor. Thanks.

See of you can find a pre-73 429/460 from a car.

Most 460's after 73 were nothing but gas guzzler's.

 

Truth is I'm turning it into a 544 stroker, gas mileage isn't to big of an issue. Thanks for the input though, I didn't know that.
