460 crank clearance

I have been reading this forum for several months now, and I was just wonderingabout how loose can one of these 385's run on the crank? I am trying to get mine replaced, mostly because of the up and down play that the crank has, cam also. When I put oin new timing gears the new set was loose right off the bat, so loose i used a screwdriver and wiggled the cam up and down at least .010 and probably more, I looked and the lobes are worn down a long ways, looks really bad! Before I put it back together I grabbed the crank and behold! it would move as much as the cam did in an up and down motion. I've just been telling people that is why they run so long is because nothing touches on these! LOL but the speedo reads 65,000 miles (at least 165, maybe 265,000) It is a 77 F-150 2wd, runs unbeleivably well, uses very little oil and runs fairly quiet also, when I changed the plugs the front two on the drivers side were about fouled and oily, the rest were very clean, but this is off subject. So what is the loosest anyone has ever had one of these run well and no knocks or leaks and plenty of power? I know when it goes I'll be a hoofin it and hopefully my other pickup will be done before that happens, I'd rather fix em before they grenade. Sorry about the long wind here but this is my question for you, and it's my first one also. Thanks, Dan
