'91 Ranger XLT 2.3 L 4 cyl

I have posted about this truck before. The problem wasn't solved by the mechanics. The Ranger is now sitting in the back yard.

I don't know the tests that have been done, but the computers have been replaced and the # 1 coil pack has been replaced. Hands have been thrown into the air over this problem:

The Ranger is missing on the #1 and #4 cylinders, the #3 and #4 cylinders fire and allow the Ranger to move, at least.

When the problem first began, the truck would be hitting on all cylinders and going beautifully. Then it would chug down to the two cylinders. We drive an Interstate often so that was dangerous. The Ranger went to the shop, where it has been in and out, with no solution. The local Ford place has had a shot at the Ranger also. They replaced the coil pack, which had just been replaced, it was still missing. Take it home and shoot the truck!

Here is my problem with that. The truck is in excellent condition, the interior is great. The truck had very good gas milage before the problem. How can one trash a truck like that? My husband is ready to call the junk guys, not me.

Here is another thing to think about: There is another Ranger in this county, with the exact same problem. Surely someone will see this, who has had the same problem with their truck, and who found a solution.

I can't ask for help, I don't know what to tell you, or ask. I just can't give up on this truck.

Welcome to FTE ginna.
Your truck is old enough to qualify for wiring problems.
Bob Flowers is a member that had a persistant problem that, at last contact, was narrowed down to a particular wiring harness as I remember.
Pulling the wiring harnesses off to do continuity tests is very labour intensive.
You could also dump the 4 banger and put a 302 in it.

I would try pulling the codes, its very easy to do. The procedure is inthe tech info post, pulling eec-iv codes.
