Doing it yourself or having it professionally done by a shop?

a bit of news for you on a v-8 conversion. it takes a totally different emmision system, computer and wire harness. so if you need this truck to pass deq it's going to start at about $5000.00 to have this done. everything has to be changed. two ways to do this are # 1 buy a totaled truck from auction or wreaking yard, or #2 install a carburated v-8 and send all your emmision crap down the road. not trying to be mr. know it all but i have been there and done that, will be happy to give you info on my conversion if you want. good luck.

hey cody. i'm sorry for the long delay, i've had to deal with some family things that took up all my time. anyway if you want to go with the EFI engine your in for more work than you want, the best way is to buy a wrecked truck because everything has to match, the computer the sensors and any thing that plugs into them needs to be from the same truck, for some reason ford made many different versions of parts and to try to piece them together would make the pope swear. sorry but i think if you look at the emission section of a chilton you can see that the systems are not even close to each other, i have a 88 f-250 2x4 and it's one of the best trucks in portland, i replace anything that starts to show wear, i have a strong eye for detail so to me money is no object to have a clean truck but on it's best day it's only worth $4000.00
and i feel that the work you have in front of you is at least $5000.00
i have a guy here in portland that i deal with that has the parts you need. it's called burnside used truck parts. speak to dale if you call, his # is 503-252-0268 all he does is trucks and can pretty much tell you what will and won't work.
the project i had done was made an EFI engine into a carburated engine, even to do that the corect way so it works and looks good was about $2000.00.
anyway i'm sorry for the delay, i don't spend much time on here anymore but i feel the best thing for you to do is to go look at some v-8 trucks and look close at every thing.
