A.R.E LSII Power Lock

The power lock option on the LSII I ordered is being offered for free with the web coupon ($89.00 value). The catch is the dealer wants $170.00 to install it. Has anyone done it themself or does anyone have the info as far as wiring harness routing and location and colors on factory door lock wiring.

Yes and no, 170 to isntall is crazy. I was quoted 70, but opted to do it myself. The place that is doing the install for me (i am gettung the tonneau cover installed tomorrow) is giving me the instalation instructions. The electrical part is only 2 wires so that is real easy. The part that is kinda hard is to get the locking mechanism seated correctly. YOu are just gonna have to play around with it to get it to work right. The above info was what my installer told me, i will be installing it this weekend tho along with a remote start. I'll let you know how it goes.

Hi everybody.....

When I got my ARE LSII Tonneau Cover installed, I looked at the power lock option, and for whatever reason, decided against it.

However, I did ask a LOT of questions about it....like.....
1) How does it work
2) How do you install it
3) Where does it get mounted
4) And most importantly, where is it wired into the trucks keyless, remote door lock/unlock system.

The answers I got to questions 1 thru 3 were pretty straight forward, and were clearly explained on the instruction sheet that comes with the ARE power lock activator.

However, there are several different ways to wire this unit into the vehicles electrical system.....depending on WHAT vehicle you are installing it on, and whether or not it has factory or aftermarket power locks, etc., etc.

For my 2004 F-150 which has the FACTORY installed remote keyless entry system with the buttons on the outside of the driver's door.....they told me that they would run the 2-wires from the ARE power lock activator down and under the bed, then along the frame on the drivers side up to about the front of the driver's door, then up and into (tie-in) the wiring harness leads that go to the power lock buttons on the armrest of the driver's door. Based on this wiring method, my tonneau cover would lock or unlock each time I push the respective button on my keychain remote or on the armrest.

Hope you find this information helpful.

HAPPY HOLIDAYS

Several reasons......

1) I didn't think it was something that I really had to have.

2) My tonneau cover was already in my local dealers inventory, so the $89.00 coupon didn't apply. It ONLY applies to a tonneau cover that your dealer ORDERS from ARE, for your truck.

3) One of the biggest reasons I got a hard tonneau cover was to have a more "custom truck" look, that would hopefully, get better gas mileage (which it does) with less wind buffetting and noise (which it does) on the open road

3) And finally.....for the very few and far between times I want to carry something in the bed of my truck.....I wanted to have a weatherproof, secure, and lockable "trunk".

I didn't think then.....and don't think now.....that it's a big deal to MANUALLY unlock the tonneau cover, every once in a great while.
