All this talk of 250,000- 300,000 mile diesels is great. The construction company I worked for had an 83 f-250 flat bed w/300 6 cyl. It had more than 300,000 when it was sold w/ minimal maintenance. Also had maybe 100-150 different drivers who didnt care about it. Was still running the last time I saw it about 10 years ago.
chuckle....yes the old six lived for a long long time great engine. I know of one that wore out two trucks then was used for pumping water then back into a lift truck and the last i heard she was still working after who knows how many miles and hours.
2005 F-150 5.4 Triton--376,784. Original engine, transmission and rear end. I've replaced injectors --once--plugs--twice.-Fan Clutch; front wheel bearings, alternator, battery, brakes (twice). Engine is beginning to use a quart of oil (motorcraft 5W-20) every 3000 miles--but that's it. Drives good, looks decent. Absolutely the most trouble free vehicle I've ever owned, and I've been through several over 40 years of travelling the state of Oklahoma as a field rep.
Not sure yet...I have yet to do anything other then normal service items...all I have done to date is fluid changes when due, and replaced the transmission pump seal along with some preventative maintenance on what ever happened to be accessible with the transmission pulled out (my decision to do so)
