New 76 F-250 390 Exhaust system
Hello Everyone,
My 76 F250 4x4 390 auto trans is in need of a new exhaust system. I was able to find a set of headers from a 75 F-250 with a 352 in it which I think should fit my 390 right? These headers are not in the best shape and have no collectors on them. Does anyone know if I am going to need to modify the collectors, or the headers to fit the C-6 I have, the headers came off a manual trans. I am not sure if the starter it going to get in the way or not.
Also because I have to get new collectors for the headers I have my choice of going with a 3'' output or a 2.5'' output, I plan to run Flowmaster 40s behind them what do you think?
And one last question, is there any reason I should or should not run an H pipe in this setup?
Thank you very much
Brad

When we swaped our 360 for the new 390, the truck with the 390 had headers on it, we tried to swap them in with the new motor but our truck is a manual and the doner truck was an auto, the headers hit the clutch linkage and would not fit. Not shure if there are headers that fit both style tranies.

Was the 75 a 4x4? If not I don't know if the headers will work. As for the rest of your system, its a good one. I have a 71 F250 4x4 that had a bone stock 390 in it for a while and this was my system: headers, 3 in. pipe to FM 40's center inlet/center outlet, with turn downs dumping it about 2 ft past my cab. It sounded awesome. It was was really deep and clean sounding. Most will tell you that 3 in pipe is too big but my 390 ran awesome with it. Even with the 2bbl carb. If at all possible, get an x or h pipe in there but even if you cant it will still sound good. A little heads up though, dumped like that makes it drone in the cab something fierce, but I liked it. Good luck
