It helps TREMENDOUSLY if you completely identify what you are working on in the title or body of your post.

Thanks for responding, technician911. I can only assist folks working with Ford Dealers, so if you decide to get them involved in the future, just let me know.

We were both told (by different dealers) that this is not an uncommon problem.

So push your horn. If it works, it is probably something other than the clock spring. If your horn won't blow, I think you have found your problem.
I have this problem ona 1992 E150 neither the horn button works or the curse control work. someone before me, hooked up a manuel button for the horn and it works. so I thing your on the right track about the clock spring. so Is there a troubleshooting tests for the spring? I am to disabled to get to the fuses under the dash to far.

A bad clock spring will cause several things to not work , cruise , horn , and usually a air bag light .
That is my experience with a F150 I bought .
Also the power port on the f150.

by power port you mean the one on the dash? what the heck does that have to do with the clock spring. I do not have an air bag light on. but then I have not even seen that light on when you turn on the key. I will check that. but the power port does work. like a cigarette light lighter port on the dash.

Here's a twist on the whole cruise-control issue. I bought a truck with 275K miles on it. No CC. Checked everything. I had the transmission rebuilt and instantly CC worked like a charm. If my truck is pulling hard up steep terrain, it will kick off the cruise control after it has shifted out of Overdrive and can't hold speed at the next lower gear. I can't reengage the CC without restarting the truck. Also, I get a loud fan-blowing sound as the truck tries to climb grade in the gear below OD. Is there a possibility that some of these issues(mine and others) have to do with a temperature sensor on the transmission?

I have all of those things not working. except the power/cigarette liter does still work. but nothing on the steering wheel. air bag light it blinking code 32.
I also cannot find a new clock spring anywhere. might have to pull it apart and fix it if I can.

thanks again FTE!

My1999 F250sd V10 cruise control went out and once again FATEsaved me time and money. Was the brake switch on the master cylinder. Under $20 at Autozone and all of 5 minutes to swap out. You guys are the best.

Merry Christmas to all of you.

Cruise Control

I was not so lucky. Turned out to be the clock spring in the steering column. And it was expensive $248.00 plus install. But now that it is all done, I am happy its all done and working well now.

In the steering column under the steering wheel.

It provides the electrical circuit connections for the horn, cruise, etc controls on the steering wheel when the wheel is rotated through its range.

Cruise not working

Cruise not working light on dash will not even come on when turn key on. No abs light on are any other lights on as for trouble codes. Checked my brake switch and rear end switch and both check out ok. Tried the cruise system checks and get nothing on it at all using the off button are the on button when the key is turned on while holding buttons down one at a time. Checked all my fuses and all are good where do I go from here. It is a 2001 f250 7.3 two wheel drive 4 door.

Had the same problem.
Change the switch at the master cylinder with this kit:

Cruise not working

Thanks for the reply I had tested that switch and it tested good but I ordered the part anyway just to make sure. Just would like to get it back for any long trips I may make. Thanks again AL
