truck wont start; frozen

i have a 1987 f-250 lariat, with a 460 c.i., 7.5 liter engine. it is about 25 degrees outside. when i turn the key it makes a clicking sound which i think is the ignition, when i turn the key, the starter(i think) clicks, and it wont turn over. THe battery is fully charged, and i even hooked up a charger to try to start it, but it wont start. Also, each time i try to start it, it clicks, dies, and it wont click back on for about 1-5 minutes like its frozen, i dont know what the problem is, can somebody help?!

Try crawling underneath and giving the starter motor a good rap with a hammer. Don't beat the living snots out of it, just a good solid hit or two on its case. Then try starting it again. This is in case the problem is a starter with a bad commutator or dirty/bad internal contacts. If this by chance does allow you to start it, realize then that starter is living on borrowed time. A short time at that!

If that doesn't do it, then troubleshooting is needed.

Also, don't forget to check the cables for corrosion. You'd be surprised how much power can be soaked up by just a little corrosion.

had a '79 bronco with 460. same symptoms during warm weather. loose positive terminal where bolted to starter. agree, may be selonoid. most likely a connection or dead battery
