Ford SVT Lightning vs. Firebird LS1

Just got back from competition racing with my cousins LS1 Firebird. We raced a stock 99' lightning F150 and I just about Profanity Removed my pants when I watched it beat us 2/3 times. This truck weighed in at 4500 and we were at 3200. Not only did Ford get the engine right, but the suspension to. Awesome Truck- now I want one.

Not much, ram induction hood and after market intake box. It's a 2000 and looks sweet.

let me get this straight a 320hp firebird lost to a 360 hp truck. That extra 40hp doesn't make up for 1300lbs and still be able to win. I don't believe its to stock or the firebird is slow. The firebird is a manual right?

They both run mid - high 13s in stock form. The Lightning has a much wider powerband than the firebird thanks to the supercharger. Peak HP doesn't always win. Believe it or not the ligtning guys seem to have much less trouble launching at the dragstrip than the F-body guys do.

ratsmokers right fordeverpower. Peak HP alone doesn't tell the story and yes the Firebird is a 6 speed manual which means the lightning will launch more consistent every time with it's automatic. The supercharger allows allot more torque at lower RPM's than a naturally aspirated 350 too.

dont forget its torque that gets u out of the hole and the lightnings make about 440 ish so that helps a lot as does the super charger with its instant boost.

Yup......Lightnings are very well designed and can put down impressive numbers with very few mods....friend has a '99 with a C&L chip/intake package and put down a 12.94 pass on ET Streets.....figure a 4# pulley and shift kit could put it in 12's in daily driver form...

keep in mind fellas that a supercharged V-8 in anything is gonna move. I'm not surprised at all the lightning beat it at all especially if the Bird had a standard. I like the F-body cars, or i did for that matter but the lightning and new cobra are nifty neck breakers.
