what's the most amount of milealge can you install a new cam without changing out cam bearings? thinking of doing a cam job on a 302 with 160,000miles...
If the oil pressure is good it doesn't matter how many miles are on it, as far as the cam bearings are concerned. However, with higher miles and a cam change, be prepaired to upgrade the rest of the valvetrain as well (pushrods/springs/valve locks/retainers/rockers/seals).
Ok, so I have ~75K on my 351, and I might be looking for a cam. First, would that have to be the only purchase (or would I need the timing set as well as any of the above mentioned parts)?. Second, how much should it run for someone to install something like that? Thanks
You have to replace the lifters and the springs are really dependant on the cam profile and age of springs, safe to say while your there you might as well change the timing chain and springs (they do have some miles on them) to be sure of longevity and dependability. How much would it cost? Around here you can figure $40/hr so long you figure it will take them? Later
