It is just like a standard bolt. turn wrench to the left will bring it out. well at least mine was on a 87 351 carbed engine. don't know if it changed for some reason on efi 302's. shouldn't have, later

rightey tighty, lefty loosey. At least that's what my wifes girlfriend told me. The only two places I've seen left hand threads are on Chryco 'forward look' cars with dual servo brakes, lug nuts were left hand thread on drivers side only AND the big nut that holds the fan clutch on FoMoCo 4.0 and 3.0 engines in Rangers & Aero*'s. At least the ChryCo had a 'L' stamped into the lugnut face...

It's right-threaded, as mentioned, and the diameter is 15/16", so make sure you have a set of big sockets. When re-installing it, the motor will turn before the proper torque is reached on the bolt, so you will have to hold on to the outside of the balancer while you torque it on. You will have to use an impact wrench to get it off, because again, the motor will spin before the bolt will break loose. TK

It is actually a better idea to grip the engine by the flexplate, as gripping the balancer may destroy it....

ask me how I know
