Any one using a Summit cam, Part #SUM-K3500 in your 460?
I am wanting to know if anyone has used one of Summit's K-3500 camshafts in their 460 powered truck?
Duration @ .050"
intake 204 / exhaust 214
Lift
int. 479 / exh. 504
lobe seperation
112
Or would it be a decent choice for a low dollar cam?
Thanks,

on the mild summit cam
I put that mild cam in my 460. It's very good. It's a good starter on cold mornings, and when you get down on it good and hard, it will answer up. My 77 F-150 will break loose at almost any speed. It's a little tough to drive on a rainey day though. I dont notice a bit of difference in the fuel milage at all. still about 10 Mpg.
You may have read that I'm having trouble starting it when it's hot. But another poster is saying a New Distributor cleared that up on his 460. I'll know more abou that this winter when I get home.

You might want to check your valve spring seat pressure before putting that new cam in. If your motor has high mileage, your springs may be worn out, and may not have enough pressure to keep the valves from floating at higher RPMs. You can pick up a spring pressure tester at autozone for like 20 bucks. Not too acurate, but it will give you your general pressure area, talk to summit about what pressure is recommended for your cam

I just got my heads back from being rebuilt. The machinist said the spring pressures were all in the high 80lb range. But I have been rolling it around in my mind to just go ahead and change them out while everything is still easliy accessed.
Summit told me my stock springs would work with this cam. I gave them the high 80lb figure my machinist had given me.

80lb will work, but if the heads are off you might as well put a new set of 90-100lb springs on. Nothing will lots of pressure, that will flatten your cam fast, but enough to keep valves from floating and will last many miles. A good set of Crane, Comp Cams, or my preference Crower or Lunati springs cost like 40-60 bucks new, and are worth it
