6.9L injector pump replacement question
My 1987 F250 6.9L was stalling every time I came to stop light. I took it to my local garage in hopes of getting away with an idle adjustment. No such luck. I now have a new (rebuilt) injector pump, and my wallet is a bit thinner. With the old injector pump the engine would idle nice and smooth, but when in use would die as I came to stop. The new injector pump has cured the stalling problem, but the idle is somewhat rough. The shop where I had the work done asked me to "drive the hell out of it", and put at least two tanks of clean diesel through the new pump. They think the injectors may be dirty, and may benefit from the new (rebuilt) pumps correct fuel delivery pressure. I have no objections to putting miles on the new injector pump, but I'd like to hear from members of the forum regarding the shops diagnosis.
Thanks
