Air Conditioning Question

Does anyone know what the accurate pressure on the system should be?? I bought a tester, but I'm not sure what the level is supposed to be. My Chilton's says the system should have 4 fluid ounces of refrigerant in it. I don't know how to check that.

Thanks

Air Conditioning Question

Are you sure the manual doesn't say 4 fluid ounces of refrigerant OIL? Refrigerant is normally ounces(weight) or pounds. Check with an AC expert.

Air Conditioning Question

Sounds like you're looking at the amount of oil the system needs. The amount of refrigerant will vary from around 16 ounces to a couple pounds. Unless you have a REAL ACCURATE scale to weigh in refrigerant by the ounces these numbers are useless. The pressures will vary with ambiant temperature and engine rpm. Is this R12 or 134A refrigerant? Doesn't really matter much, the presures are fairly close. You could be looking at around 45 to 55 psi low pressure and around 150 to 200+ high side at idle say around 80 degrees outside temp. Like I said, these will vary with temp.

Air Conditioning Question

TexasGuy,

Go to aircondition.com. They are very smart and very helpful. When you post give them the High and Low presure readings at about 2,000 RPM plus the outside temp. and temp of air coming from the A/C vents. State your problem or ask your question.
