I'm overseas right now and can't really look at new trucks except on the internet. My next big purchase will be a new truck and I'm sure it will either be the 2004 F150 4x4 Lariet or the 2004 Nissan Titan LE. Crewcab or extended cab is still in question. Plan to buy one of them in the spring.

Has anyone actually looked at the Nissan Titan in person or driven it? I know this is a Ford website, but just wondering if anyone has done a fair comparision.

I personnaly don't care for the chrome bumper and the tailgate on the Titan, but the truck looks good on paper.

Being that the Titan has Nissan's first V-8, I think I'd stay away from it as it will probably have a lot more problems than Ford, who's been making V-8's since 1932.

I agree with him. And also, the extended cab is plenty big enough in the F-150 for people to sit, and it has power windows now. So the "crew cab" is pointless in my opinion. I'd rather have a slightly longer bed instead, and the lower pricetag as well.

well.... nissan has been making V8s for awhile. Mainly for thier race cars, although I beleive the Infiniti SUV offers a 4.6L V8. Also, there is a Nissan SUV available in Europe with a V8.

I like nissan engines. The VQ35 V6 is regarded as one of the best engines in production. How that's decided I have no idea. I've never heard of problems with the them.

But I can understand your logic. I think one reason I'm considering the Titan is Nissan's reputation for quality. What I'm talking about is not just engines/transmission, but everything. What will drive me nuts is a 4-year old truck that starts having electrical problems and things like power windows or warning lights stop working correctly.

Last year I looked at about every truck out there. Liked the Dodge, but a bad Chrysler experience has left me weary. Almost bought a Silverado but hated the cheap plastic. Just didn't like the 03' F150 that much. The Tundra, No.

Anyway, just wondering if anyone has had the opportunity to actually look closely at the Titan. I heard today they won't be out until December, so it may be too early.

Wahoo,

I will be giving the Tundra another look since the new doublecab is supposed to be larger than ford's supercrew. I thought the Tundra was underpowered when I drove the '03 but with the additional cab room and toyota's general troublefree rep. I think I should consider it. It should compete head to head with the new f-150 well.

How can the Tundra Crew Cab be larger than the Ford???? The Tundra is narrower and shorter than the F-150, heck, my mechanics teacher said that the Tundra was 7/8 scale of a full size truck. It's a TOY!!!

MW95F250,

Your teacher was absolutely correct.

The '04 is an all new body and wheelbase.

Haven't seen it in person but supposed to be 13" longer, 3" wider
and 3" taller.

That's how!

I'd like to agree with you, but if Ford's been making v8s so long, why do some rare newer Tritons have piston slap still? That Infiniti Q45 makes like 340 ponies! Some problem they have, right? Riiiight.

Nissan did their homework. Other than the only tranny being a 5-speed slushie! That blew their chance at me thinking of one....

I don't care if I own a Ford and am on a Ford related site....if someone like Nissan did homework, I'm taking notes. Hopefully, the other makers take even more copious notes!

The only engines I know of that slap are the Vortec Chevys.

Alfred,

Can you elaborate on your comment about the Nissan transmission. The articles I read said it was the undoubtably the best transmission od any truck. That tranny is one of the strong selling points so if you have other expereince with it, please share.

The 5.4 and 6.8 are very well known for having piston slap issues. Short piston skirts that are less stable in the bores. Someone needs to tell the rocket scientists at Ford (and Chevy) that short skirts belong on pretty women. Not in engines. The Nissan is going to give the F-150 a run for the money imo.

LOLOL
I hardly think the Nissan is going to give the F-150 a run for it's money. Especially the 04's those are going to be absolutely insane and are very stylish.

I doubt that a japanese v-8 is going to come close to matching the torque of an american v-8. I'm not saying it isn't a good engine, hell it'll probably pump some impressive hp figures, but the torque band is going to be up to high in the rev range to be useful in a truck.

I'd have to agree with you rhetor, the japanese V-8 is porbably going to kick out serious horsepower but the towing capacity probably isn't going to be much. I'm still curious and might go test drive it, but im still sticking to my Ford.

actually the Nissan makes 375ft lbs at 3200 rpm, 90% of this at less than 2500 rpm... better than the Ford F150, and has a 9500 lb tow rating.
