Please help.....truck died, won`t start
I have a 1990 f150 6 clylinder with a 5 speed manual trans. I was driving home from work and the truck just died. It will turn over but will not start. I took the ignition module (mounted on distributor) and the coil off and had them tested and both were said to be good. I tried running a KOEO test as started in Chiltons manual and the best I can tell is I am getting a code 67 error, which I guess is Tranmission Manual Lever Position (MLP) sensor circuit. Does this sound right?? Would it let the truck turn over but not start???? I am really green at troubleshooting but am trying to learn. Can someone help me out and tell me what other things I should be looking for!!! Everything else works, lights, horn, radio. etc.... just won`t start....Thanks

You are getting lights & power, so the battery is ok. I would gander that if it turns over & trys to start it is not your transmission gear indicator. If the truck was in drive & you try to start then it would just click. No turning over at all. I would look into the distributer. Had my truck die on the road. It would turn but not start. Found out the distributer's brass gear shattered. How did it die? Just stop running or get real rough then stop? When you tried to restart, did it somewhat run & not catch?

At what point are you getting the code 67 ? I looked thru my pinpoint test charts & they all seem to relate to the neutral start switch , all other references are to the E4OD trans . Since you have a manual 5 speed , the other parts of the test dont apply to your truck . Have a look at the Neutral start switch & see whats going on with it . That code also deals with the A/C circuit , Were you running the A/C at the time the truck died ? Inspect its wiring esp where it connects to the compresser .

code 67 will appear if u run your koeo test with your truck in gear. try testing the computer with the shift lever in neutral and that code should go away- as for the truck dying i cant help you, my bronco II wont run for more then 20 minutes without dying.so if u figure anything out i need the help.

I had the same symptoms with my '89 last month. Didn't run a test on it though. It turned out to be the wire from the tach that plugs into the coil (or the other way around) had been severed at the coil. The truck would turn over, but not start--even when easing the clutch out while being pulled at about 50 MPH.
