I love the 2004 F-150! On September 12th I ordered my new 2004 F-150 Lariat. This will be my first truck and my first Ford. I don't have a build date yet but I plan to check with the dealership next week to see if there is any news.
I have been reading the FTE forums for the past few months while trying to make my decision. My thanks to everyone for all the help and advice I have received here.
If Ford should come up with a rebate before my truck arrives would I be entitled to it?

Order Date / Build Date / Delivery Date
FYI.....I ordered my '04 Supercrew Lariat 4 x 2 (LOADED) on Wednesday evening, October 8th (EXACTLY 2 weeks ago from today). My dealer electronically transmitted my (and several other orders) to Ford at 10:00 AM the next day, Thursday, October 9th.....telling me that it would be 4 to 6 weeks until my truck arrived. Just a few minutes ago, my sales person called to let me know that my truck is going to be built in the Kandas City Plant on Monday, October 27th.....and that it will be here 7 to 10 days from the build date, which will be on or about Wednesday, November 5th.....which is EXACTLY 4 weeks from the date I placed the order.....
Question?????? Does anybody know what determines which plant (Kansas City or Norfolk) an ordered '04 F-150 is built in....and is there any noticeable build quality (or other) differences between trucks built in those two plants?!?!

order time
ordered my 4x2 super cab lariat, black/beige sept.9, dealer called me on oct 15 with the truck on his lot, picked it up oct 18, a little surprised. i never ordered a vehicle before, always found one with a dealer or they located one for me. always heard too many horror stories on ordering delays, dealer stories, etc. i would change my mind while waiting! got a little lucky on this one, great truck!except for mirror and valance damage and dead message center that has to back to dealer, bummer. by the way, built in Norfolk

Fanman2,
The Norfolk plant builds regular and supercab models. The SuperCrews are built in Kansas City. The VIN will have a "K" as the second digit of the last 8 numbers in the VIN. That tells you it was assembled in KC.
From what I understand, Ford might be looking to build the new 04 F-150s at a third plant, but I haven't confirmed that.
I was lucky enough to attend a 2004 F-150 Ride and Drive that was awesome! I just sold my 1997 F-150 Supercab 4X4 Off-Road package truck. My Virginia vanity tags "F-SERIES" are ready to go on my new 04 SuperCrew Lariet when it arrives next week.
It takes about 3 days for the truck to show as "produced" in the order bank once it's scheduled to be built during a particular week. My truck was slated to be built starting 10/20. It was listed as produced on 10/23. Dealer ETA of 11/4. That's going from KC to Roanoke, VA. Listed as shipped via convoy.
Hope this info helps.

I ordered an'04 Scab last month, finally got a build date of 10/13 and delivery usually about 10 days after completion. They even gave me an ETA of 10/28. (Thats 12 days , but who's counting?) I keep checking but no word yet.... They can't even find out where it is.... If The Post Office and UP{S can have a tracking number, whey can't Ford? Wjhat a marketing gimmick it would be.... Order your truck and once you get a VIN, you can track it all through assembly and transport.... But my confidence in Ford is fading fast and to think there isn't even a rebate talked of yet, although I just heard "maybe" 1/1/04.

I also have a build date of 10/13 for an 04 supercab. i had someone check the vin number and its not shipped yet. called my dealer and he said it could be december before it shows up! all a mystery to me why they would sit on inventory that has a customer waiting. those chevy rebates are looking mighty attractive right about now.
