<--hopping mad



i have an 89 aerostar that i had running nicely, i changed wires, coil, plugs (gapped properly), even oil change and filter.
now when i try to start it, it wont go, it has a spark and the fuel pump clicks on.

one thought ive had is the Inertia switch.

also, could it be a faulty fuel injectors..

seeing as the injectors are 128 (canadian) a piece...and there are 6...i hope it is the first thing..

 

Sounds like you put the spark plug wires on wrong.
Back in the wrong firing order.

 

Tim, does the engine turn over? Or, when you turn the key, you hear the fuel pump come on, and then nothing? Please answer, and we'll go from there. Thanks! ED...

 

when i turn the key, i hear the click and him from the fuel pump, like normal.
but when i go to turn it on, it turns over, but it wont run..

if i use quick start, it will turn over and run, up until i give it gas, then it dies.

 

Did you check fuel breaker behind the kick panel on the passengers side? It will keep the van from starting if it's tripped.

 

I just had the same situation. I turn the key and hear the fuel pump and then I check the pressure release value next to the fuel pressure requlator and fuel would start flying out. What I didn't realize was, that after that the fuel pump would not turn on. It would do that initial thing and then that was it. Try cranking the engine and hold down the pressure release value, you should have gas constantly being pumped out.

 

If it starts and quits, but will run if you hold open the throttle then why don't you check your Air Bypass Valve? Check the wires connecting to it.

A dead one will keep the van from running unless you give it gas.
