clutch fan / water pump replacment
Remove the fan+clutch assembly first. I imagine you're like me and don't have the oddball wrench to do this with.
Here's what I do. Leave the fanbelt on. Get a large punch (a dull chisel will do) and a hammer. Place the punch on the edge of the "nut" that corresponds to loosening it. Remember it's left hand threads, so it's "backwards". Beat on it. I find a few good taps is all it usually takes. Spin the fan clutch off and then the belt, etc.
A few good taps in reverse to make sure it's nice and tight when you go to put it back on.

goto your local Autozone and rent the ford fan clutch tool, $20 and 3 less busted knuckles later, you'll have it off in a flash. AND you get your $20 back when you return the wrench.
If you take the pump and fan off as one peice, you will never get the clutch off, it need to be firmly mounted to the engine to get it off.
