Why I bought a leftover 2016 F250
Sold my 2000 7.3 in December. I was in no hurry to buy a new truck, but always on the lookout for a good deal.
I had decided to replace my F150 and my F250 with just one truck, a gasser F250.
The new 2017 F250 is the best 3/4 ton out there, and I hang with Ford guys, so I had pretty much limited my search to SD.
No great deals (20%-25% off MSRP) on 2017s yet. Being in no hurry, I was going to wait Ford out on new rebates.
Also, nothing like I want out there. I had decided on a XLT SuperCab, LB, 6.2, 2WD. I was probably going to have to order it in. Optioned out like I wanted, MSRP was going to be $43k-$45k. I figured in time, I could buy it for $37k-$38k.
Then along came my local dealer taking $7500 off MSRP on a leftover '16. XLT CrewCab, 6.7l, 4WD. Green gem (a color that I like) to boot.
After all the rebates, I bought it for just under $40k (MSRP was $56k).
So I spent maybe $3k more than my dream truck, and got an old model '16.
But I got a diesel, a full crew cab and 4WD (which I really do not need). All of which add greatly to resale down the road. The 6.2l would have been enough for my needs, but having too much power is not really such a bad thing.
I am quite confident that 3-4 years from now, when I get tired of the truck, as I never wear them out, my '16 will be worth far more than even an '18 like I was going to order.
I would love to have a '17 or an '18, but the cheapskate in me just would not let me pull the trigger.
Congrats to all of you.

Jschira, congrats on your new truck. Post some pics! Gem green is not available on the 2017 trucks, and some are lamenting that fact (Rasalas for one).
What you got is an excellent truck. The 2016 was the last of a very well-proven line; the diesel in the 2016 models seemed to be pretty problem free. Personally, I think the 2016 truck has a couple of advantages over the 2017 trucks: better seats, better seating position, and in some ways, nicer styling (just my opinion, of course).
I'd take a 2016 Crew Cab 4x4 diesel over a 2017 SuperCab 4x2 gas any day of the week.

I had a 1983 Dodge Omni that I made my newlywed wife drive (she had a Mustang II POS that she was driving when we got married). It was charcoal grey and she hated that car. I cannot own a charcoal car or truck. She would not set foot in it.
Although black has been popular since Henry Ford himself was a pup, it just is not for me.
I would not have ordered Green Gem, I would have ordered a lighter color, but my 'o my, does it glisten in the sun.
And you cannot go wrong with 4wd, whether you need it or not. Even here in TX, dealers stock mostly 4wd SDs.

That is why I was going to go to a gasser if I bought a 17 or an '18.
I do not really need a diesel (I only pull 10k-11k lbs.). And even XL diesels sticker for over $50k.
So to keep the price down to what I call halfway reasonable, I was going to stick with the gasser.
But when you get a chance to buy a diesel at near a gasser price, you have to go diesel.

These trucks are used for all kinds of outdoorsy stuff. Some shade of green seems a natural.
But Ford does not ask me these questions.

I also miss the big round Powerstroke badge on the door - the new rectangular one is not as good in my opinion.
