Tom, thanks for bringing that story back up in my mind....ugh!
Morning everyone and welcome to Thursday. I was a bad boy the other day and I finally replaced my '01 with this new to me '10.

No lights and no siren. I am living outside of my fire district (it is about a 10-12 minute drive to get to it on back roads). Seeing that I am still laid up some, I have not responded to a call in over a year and a half. I may get a LED dash light to mount to the windshield and in NY you can only have a siren and run red lights if you are a chief. Seeing that I am nothing but a grunt now, no siren....no reds.
Also I have been thinking about changing departments once I get everything healed back up and I have a better idea if I can wear my bunker boots without my custom orthopedic inserts that my doctor has me wearing. One of the reasons why I have stayed in my current department is I will become a life member this year after having 25 years of service. I may just decide to stay in my current department and I have told the chief in the past that I would still respond, but it would be only on the bigger calls where man power is needed.

when dad was 75 he was pretty much kicked out buy a new chief that felt there was no place for old timers on fireground and he was relegated to the radio room. .
so for his 2 years as chief there was no truck response from house two during the day because there was no driver. the day the new chief was sworn in, dad got his recertification papers.
and was regularly called to the scene to help the new officers, because he was an ex chief, and the town fire marshal for 25 years.
he no longer responds to fires after the heart attack and stroke 3 years ago, but at 87 he is still very active in the administrative side of things. he has also been a life member for the past 40 years.

not really. i think the ankle is a stress fracture the hospital folks missed. but i will not have health insurance for another 9 days after the other company dropped me the day i fell. so i have to wait till the first to go to the foot doctor.
on a side note, i proved again i am going senile.
i finally hooked the ice maker up on the fridge i bought a year ago. went to put the collection tray under it, and the damn thing would not fit!
they sent me the wrong one!!!
spent an hour modifying the one i had to fit under the maker and work. put it all together and saw the damn shelf in the freezer has two positions. high and low.
low position is exactly 3 inches lower than the high position. and guess what?? i took exactly 3 inches out of the one side to make it fit.
so instead of pulling a Carl and wasting one hour to modify the basket, i could have spend 5 seconds moving the shelf down to the lower position.

Thanks Tony and I hope so. It looks like it has been well taken care of and dealer serviced so I feel confident with my purchase.
