Let's bash Toyota

I have owned 6 Toyota's in my lifetime and have had great service with all. Had a '97 single cab 4x4 that I abused every chance I got, mud, sand, marsh and only had one front axle seal fail. That was the only issue my ex-wife and I ever had with any of them. I grew up with Ford's and will always have a Ford truck in my driveway even if I buy another Toyota!

I have my Super Duty, had several Honda's, (currently three) Wifes Toyota which just hit 100k last night. Toyota only required a heater motor, rear diff seal and brakes. Very solid car.
I personally wouldn't own a Chevy, Fiat/Mopar, Hyundai or KIA, but Toyota, Honda and Ford will always be at the top of my list.

Had a camry once. Drove it like a rally car. It held up well. Also had a nissan drove it like a baja truck. It held up fairly well. Managed to tear all 6 rivets out of the clutch of a 4cyl truck. Went to chevys and i began a relationship with autozone. Started driving fords and i seldomly go to the part stores for my vehicles at least till i got a ford with 338k. That one i keep replacing wear parts from 338k i guess

having had nissans & Dodges in the past, I'll never again own anything but a ford..just a firm believer in "american" brands now.
In addition to the bailout, the reason I'll never go back to dodge is that in the realm of aftermarket parts, there aren't nearly as many, comparitively..at least that was my experience when I had my '06 ram.
the thing that really bugs an OCD personality like me about chevy is the wheel wells: why in the blue "intercourse" put a square wheel well for round tires..just looks out of place & ridiculous

I have fought with that rusty Tacoma for years. Sometimes, it was a total rebuild of the rear axle, sometimes the front struts would rot out, sometime the fuel lines would snap, several times it was new exhaust, and sometimes, the friggin spring on the throttle body would rust open (seriously?!?)
Fords are no queens when it comes to rust either, but after a while, it just gets pathetic. I've owned plow trucks that didn't rot like a Toyota.
I could almost forgive that but for the fact that they halfassed the firstrepair with the undercoating, then halfassed the timeframe on my replacement frame (4 months with no truck), and then they quarterassed the actual new frame fabrication.
there's letting go of a grudge and then there's burning hot well justified hatred. For $15 of zinc that they never bothered to put on the truck frame, a lot of hassle could have been avoided. Makes you wonder what else they skimped on, doesn't it?

No doubt newer toyotas have good build quality. My wife works for a Japanese auto electronics company. Most of their products are for Toyota, and they also build for Subaru and ford. My dislike for Toyota stems from my teenage years when I bought an 81 Toyota to 4wheel. 22r's are the best engines ever, yeah right. First trip out I broke the timing belt. The truck was 18 years old and had more rust than an 18 year old Walmart bargain BBQ grill that had been left uncovered on the back porch of a beach house. Even though my wife's work is directly related to Toyota, and I see the strict quality control(she does inspections and repairs on solders), I'm not buying one because I buy domestic. I may be stubborn, but that's my choice.

I've had (in this order):
88 Toyota 4x4 pickup
91 Toyota 4Runner
85 Toyota 4x4 pickup (fuel injected, solid axles)
03 Toyota Corolla S
85 Toyota 4Runner (fuel injected, solid axles)
03 Tundra
08 Toyota Matrix (wife's car when we got married)
08 FJ Cruiser Trail Team
97 LandCruiser with E-lockers front/rear
and I loved every one of them. Never had any major issues with any of them except for a clutch , and that was my fault (don't ask). I rarely lost money on any of them, even after driving them for thousands of miles and beating some of them pretty hard. I've never had another vehicle that was so obviously well built as my LandCruiser. All in all, I'm a big fan of Toyota, and would probably have one if they made a 3/4 ton or 1 ton. However, those were all in Phoenix, where rust is really a non-issue, so I can't comment on that. Only reason I went through so many was big changes in my life at different times, and the type of vehicles I needed or could afford.
All that being said, I'm loving my '12 F250 6.2l, and as I did my research on what to get, I've been amazed at how few of problems there have been overall with the 6.2. Sometimes I look through pages and pages of the 6.2l V8 forum just to see what issues people have had and it's pretty amazing how little I find. I plan on keeping my truck for a lonnnnngggg time, and I can't think of a better motor/transmission/frame/body to do that with.

my coworker has a real pretty F350 six-0. When I started working with him in 2013 I had heard that he had been bullet proofed...cab off...eight grand......
About six months ago I saw him taking water out to it he said it was getting hot just a little. Now he's not driving it and I didn't bug him but another coworker said it needs head gaskets.

The truck I sold to buy my 2016 F350 was a 2011 Tundra. It was the best truck I have ever owned and the only truck I was sad to sell. I bought it brand new and it never gave me one problem. It was fast and looked good and towed my toy hauler without any hassle.
I now need to carry two quads on the bed of my truck and would not be leagle with the Tundra payload numbers.
I am pretty happy with the superduty, but if Toyota comes out with a heavy duty truck for the North American market, I will be out of this ford at that time.

That red truck looks awesome! Love the color. Nice wheels and tires too
