Which F-150 should I buy?

Go '16 leftover. No other sensible option. Glad you are considering the 3.5 EB, as I haven't heard such "horror stories" from anyone other than fanboys who are jealous their own trucks are under powered. Still, get what you want.
Lots of more basic trucks can be had in the $35k range new. Rebates vary by region, but I did a quick search and found XLTs starting around $35,500. If you would be good with and XL Chrome or Sport package, you'd easily be under the target, and with a brand new one.

I will take a look at the sport, but would prefer an XLT if I can find one.

Thank you for the replies, I appreciate it. I was looking at used, but I do see some 16' leftovers fairly reasonable. I don't want to spend more than $35k, so not sure if new is possible.
Needs to be 4x4 and crew cab. Dont really care about anything else (other than engine). In doing some research, the 3.5L eco may be an option. Can you tell me more about the Sync3 and how it's better?
I see new 2016 2.7L ecos for for a little over $30k, but no 3.5's...or 5.0's

When I was looking the incentives were the best on the XLT models. I would think 35 could be done. There were a lot of V8 XLT Sport models when I was looking. I think those were the best deal.
The display and touch screen are a little more crisp with Sync 3. The voice commands are more intuitive.
I'm on my 2nd EcoBoost Truck. My 2012 has over 91,000 miles on it with no issues. If that truck wasn't towing something, it was hauling something. I'm liking my current 2.7 EcoBoost. I haven't it long enough to really know but it looks like I'll get about 7 to 8 MPGs better than my Super Duty.

The cheapest XLT I found in Illinois is at Cucci Ford. Using $6000 in rebates (includes owner loyality, does NOT include the extra $500 for Ford Financing), X plan would be $35545. It's a 3.5 EB in blue flame, XLT package, and it has the console seats but no other extra options..
The cheapest 5.0 XLT is at Manley's it's black with trailer tow, rear view camera, and the console seating... X plan with the same structure would be $35941
Both are 145 WB trucks
There are also 6 XL trucks in the state that fit, but why not move up if you like it.
All based on a 60007 zip.
Good luck on your new truck, you're going to love it and I'll be jealous until I get myself one.

I traded the wife's SUV in September of 2015 from a dealership in Beachwood Ohio, I'm in Hattiesburg, Ms.they shipped both vehicles free of charge, on top of that our trade was a leased vehicle that the dealership took in trade, and I ended up with pretty substantial equity.
Or you could sell the trade vehicle to a private seller......

This place is right by my house. The internet price is pretty much what you pay & the used car manager loves F250's.
Here is a 2017 STX for 35,082.
New 2017 Ford F-150 For Sale | Highland IN
If you jump up to 39K there is this one, which looks like it has 0% financing. On a monthly payment it is probably cheaper than a used truck.

Love dealers like that. ^^^
I bought my truck from a large dealer in Apple Valley, MN. They list their bottom line price on their website, no strings attached. From experience, they won't budge an inch on sale price, or trade-in for that matter, but the process is much more transparent than at most dealers.
My truck had an MSRP of $46,300, and was listed on their website for $34,999. Subtract my $1K private cash offer and $500 military rebate, and I paid $33,499 on the dot.

I found a 2016 XLT Sport for $39k locally. It's a little more than I want to spend, but it looks like I will get what I want on the trade-in.
I like the color and options. I have always been a fan of the FX4 package, but didn't want to spend the extra dough. I figure I can add skids later if needed, but not sure about the e-locker?
Anyway, I should know for sure tomorrow.
Any opinions on the XLT Sport package?
