Rust Spots on Grill

I live in Colorado and I'm getting rust specs on my front chrome bumper and on the chrome on the grill. I assume that it's from the Magnesium Chloride that CDOT uses to treat the roads. I tried removing the spots with Turtle Wax Chrome and Metal Polish, but it was worthless. Can someone recommend a product that works.

Thanks!

I would suggest clay bar. I have removed rail dust from my previous vehicles using a clay bar.

I've removed a lot of stuff from chrome using NevrDull. Cleaned my 2002 chrome rims on my pontiac right up to factory new looking after trying a bunch of other stuff.

I'm seeing rust spots all over my white platinum truck, especially the tailgate. I know it's just rail dust but isn't that something the dealer should have to clean off? Has anybody gotten the dealer to take care of that for them?

clay bar will remove this too. Yes the dealer should have removed it IMO but depending on which method they would use they could cause more harm to the paint. This is why you should inspect the truck thoroughly before signing the bottom line ____________!

I've tried a lot of things on my plastic "chrome" grille and none of them worked. The Mag Chloride here in Colorado sucks.

Can confirm I'm having the same issue on the "chrome" running boards. I think it's from the Mag Chloride as well. I used a paint polish and they came right off though. Both running boards were absolutely covered in rust spots after our last snow in Northern Colorado.

Well, the good news is the "chrome" grille is plastic and won't actually rust. The white trucks also show the "rust" spots on the paint the worst...but they will come off. I used Bug & Tar remover. Took some effort back when I had a white Platinum truck.

Well, I tried the clay bar on the plastic "chrome grill" and chrome bumper with no change in the results. I also tried glass cleaner and #0000 steel wool with no results.

There has to be a way to remove the rust spots before it gets out-of-hand.

Many times we don't look at them close enough to catch rail dust. It is actually able to be covered under warranty, and they'll use a clay bar.

Maybe you should complain to whoever runs your DOT in Colorado. Seems like they are causing a lot property damage by using Mag Chloride.

Ha! Good luck with that. There's too many people that fail to properly prepare their vehicles for winter weather. So government has to take care of them.

My brakes were worn out on my 2011 just the other day and had metal to metal contact. My aluminum wheels were solid rust and has rust spots on the entire left side. I used lime-away in a spray bottle and it removed every bit of it with minimal effort. I have white platinum tri-coat.
