1982 Ford f150 restoration "Explorer Special " package

I have numerous questions on a truck I want to restore . I am only 22 but learned to drive in a 1982 f150 5spd manual transmission with the 300 straight six! I have never found a truck I liked bettter. . . So like anyone else who wants PA truck they had when they were younger I wanted to find a similar . So I searched for about two months and bought a 4x4 explorer package which seems to have some mystery about it. I want to make it original but can't find many parts for my truck.

Welcome to FTE... IMO you should be able to find a fair number of parts easily, but not everything and especially not certain trim items.

I don't know that a 5-speed was ever installed by the factory for an F150; I know they came in the heavier GVWR trucks with the bigger engines in later years, but not with a straight 6 in the lower-GVWR 150.

What, exactly, are you looking for?

Welcome to the forum, 1982 f150 explorer! The 1982 F150 would more likely have a 4 speed maual O.D., but as ctubutis said, it may have been modified by a previous owner.

What are you looking for with regards to parts? Maybe someone can help you.

Sorry, I'm a farm boy . It's actually was a four speed with overdrive. And I'm looking for a long bed with the explorer tail gate in decent condition and the bench seat . I'm also looking for the explorer trim specifics. I have no idea what package it has though due to I can't find a brochure on it. Btw I'm actually restoring a 1982 f 150 4x4 LB " explorer special" 300i6 4 speed manual ( seems more like a 3spd with a granny low though ).

The Explorer package... Ralph used to be able to explain that really well (but he hasn't been here in years). It's just a trim package but I forget the details of the included items; IIRC there weren't many of them built/produced and nobody these days duplicates things such as the tape striping kits and emblems.

Maybe somebody will be able to point you to more specific information, I don't have anything offhand, sorry.

The 5spds weren't installed factory in the 80-86 F100/F150/Bronco's, they were after 1988/1989 though. They used the M5OD-R2.

Welcome to the forum!
I did some digging for you about what each Explorer package has, at least for 1981...

Thank you very much all of you! So far from my own research I've done so far the truck I found is fairly rare and I can't even find the original brochure for the 82 explorer package. I'd really like to keep everything as original as I can about my truck .

What is that report called that he can get that will tell him what the truck had when it left the factory?

Sometimes, under the seat is a copy of the build sheet.

The Marti Report, from Kevin Marti.

https://www.martiauto.com/martireports.cfm

They cost about $30-$50 IIRC and just provide the same information that's in the Build Sheet but in a more readable format.

You used to send a letter to Ford and they replied back for free with a nice, consumer-readable report on how the thing was built.

Ford sold all of that information to Kevin Marti, I guess someplace around 2010.

He now provides that service (plus others) for a cost, check out his web site.

Ford will keep records for only so long.

Oh you were saying the report is the build sheet that you can read...got it.
I thought you meant he has a build sheet but the report would put it in a readable print.
