2012 F250 6.7L Diesel - help
I am looking at a 2012 F250 with the 6.7L Diesel. I really need any info anyone has on these pickups. Reliability, fuel mileage, etc. Don't know anything about the DEF systems. I had the 7.3 diesel years ago and liked it. Have been driving an '05 Ram 2500 - 5.9 diesel for the last 8 years. Had no problems in the last 150,000 miles. Anybody with experience, responses would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

I went from 97, 05, 11 Ram/cummins to a 06 f350 6.0 to my current 11 f450. Look at the date of manufacturing. The early 12 still had the valve or glow plug problems. There is a tsb posted here that shows what dates are effected.
my F450 with 430 gears and stock tires got 15 mpg, after deleted it is 16+, this is about 60% hwy, non towing. You eill also find that there where a number of upgrades done to the 15 m.y. . If you are like me that new of a truck is out of my budget. I paid $33,500 for my 2011 King Ranch, and happy with the truck. For RELIABILITY I did do the emmison delete on it after I bought it
I will post a link for a site that you can get build date and what options are on the truck. One of the options that was a MUST was the suplimental heater; warm air seconds after starting a cold engine =

The big thing is emissions and your driving habits and maintence habits.
With the emissions, just be sure to add def at a different interval as you do fuel till you at least get the hang of it.
I take about 5 gallons every 5K miles. You can go longer with less towing.
Regens are more with less towing and def usage is less.
With towing, fewer regens but more def usage.
If you are strickly a in town driver then the regen may become problematic. Get it out on the hwy and up to temps to keep it working properly.

Knock on wood .... I have had no mechanical problems with my '12 and I really like my truck. My problems have been with design. The CCSB fuel tank capacity is very small when towing: 26 gallons with about 23-24 usable. I get 11-11.5 mpg towing which makes the range short when in country 50 miles between gas stations. FYI It is easy to get 19-20 mpg unloaded road driving and 16-17 mpg on short trips near town. I fixed the fuel capacity problem with a Titan 50 gallon in frame tank replacement. The truck squats with the 900 lb load from my travel trailer, even with an equalizer hitch. The frame collapses onto the jounces with routine road bumps. Air Lift bags fixed this problem. DEF is not an issue as long as you pay attention when adding it. Every couple of tanks of fuel I check the info display for DEF level: if less than half full then I add two gallons. Good luck!!
